Dr. Betz is an ABPTS board-certified geriatric clinical specialist, 1991 graduate of Lousiana State University Medical Center's Physical Therapy program and received her clinical doctorate in physical therapy from Evidence in Motion (EIM) Institute of Health Professions in 2017. She is a graduate of both Polestar Pilates and Ron Fletcher Program of Study.
As a bone health exercise expert, Sherri serves as the Chair of the Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy's Bone Health Special Interest Group, a member of National Osteoporosis Foundation's (NOF) Exercise and Rehabilitation Activities Council, and as an advisor for American Bone Health (ABH). She is a spokesperson for the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). Sherri also serves as Chair of the Pilates Method Alliance's (PMA) Research Committee and is the past Chair of the PMA Certification Commission and past PMA Board Vice-President. She is the recipient of the 2017 PMA Deborah Lessen Award for her many years of dedication and service to the Pilates Method Alliance.
Dr. Betz has published numerous articles, book chapters, and videos on the topic of Pilates for special populations. She speaks internationally, presents regularly on Pilates Anytime, and consults on the topic of exercise for osteoporosis, geriatrics and orthopedic pathologies. She has conducted and participated in research on exercise for osteoporosis. Dr. Betz is passionately devoted to improving awareness about geriatric exercise, bone health, and safe yoga and Pilates-based exercise through professional and consumer education as well as through promotion of low-cost community exercise programs for fit and frail older adults.
